The Pontine islands are of volcanic origin and have always been ideal places, archetypal islands for the searching mind.
When their outline appears on the horizon, they immediately become a home for the soul; sailing under their cliffs and the overhanging rocks, we feel amazement and awe. Upon disembarking we hear residents of the islands tell fables and legends full of tremendous and fantastical events: in the Pontine Archipelago, such stories are heard more than in other places.
The archipelago of the Pontine Islands is situated almost exactly at the centre of the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the coast of Lazio. It is composed of two groups of islands: the first group at West-Northwest includes Ponza, Gavi, Palmarola and Zannone. The second groups at East Southeast includes Ventotene and S.Stefano. The "Scoglio della Botte" is an isolated rock, emerging between the two groups.
